Prague - Prague will announce a tender for the construction of a new footbridge between Císařský Island and Troja. The price will depend on the outcome of the selection process. This follows from the material approved by Prague's council today. The new footbridge will be temporary and will replace the original one, which collapsed last December 2. As soon as the temporary construction is completed, the city will hold an architectural competition for the final design of the bridge. The proposal still needs to be approved by Prague's representatives. Four people were injured in the collapse. The city is currently dealing with their compensation. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.

The temporary footbridge will replace the original one on the same route and connect the street Pod Havránkou in Troja with Císařský Island across the river. It will serve pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency services will also be able to cross it if necessary. A ferry is currently operating at the site.

The temporary footbridge is to be built next year and will have a lifespan of up to 30 years. The bridge's structure is designed as an asymmetric continuous structure with six spans. The deck consists of a central steel circular profile and a system of cross braces and longitudinal beams. In the future, Prague intends to hold an architectural competition for the final design of the footbridge, which is expected to be six to seven meters wide.

Councilwoman Hana Marvanová (United Forces for Prague) stated on her Twitter account today that the city will compensate those affected by the footbridge collapse through the insurance company. "The victims will not have to wait until the investigation into this disaster is complete and until the culprit is known. That would take too long," Marvanová wrote. She did not specify which insurance company she reached an agreement with. The city has so far paid each of the affected individuals 50,000 crowns.
