Student competition: Conversion and reconstruction of the brewery in Buštěhrad

Conversion and completion
of the area of the former imperial brewery in Buštěhrad

Student non-anonymous competition for the solution to the rehabilitation of a significant historical complex and its immediate surroundings;
under the patronage of the Dean of FA ČVUT prof. Ing. arch. –ir. Zdeněk Zavřel

The purpose of the competition is to obtain variant conceptual proposals for the revitalization of a significant historical area, which will respect the preserved valuable parts of historical buildings and sensitively address the transformation under specified conditions, including construction for new functional use with a predominance of housing. The aim of the competition is to assist the owner of the area in the conceptual area (practical suggestions for use and solutions, strengthening awareness of the high value of the area) and to contribute to the preservation of the complex at a time when its existence is fundamentally threatened (demolition order issued). As part of the preparation for the competition, teachers from FA ČVUT will also assist the owner by preparing a framework construction-historical survey of the brewery and an assessment of its construction and technical condition, as well as possibilities for its restoration.

The competition is intended for students of all studios of FA ČVUT, possibly FSv ČVUT, VŠUP Prague, FA TU in Liberec, FA STU Bratislava, etc.

The date for the brewery inspection will be determined based on the number of participants and agreement with the property owners at the beginning of the semester.

Announcement of results: February 2011
