Uhlířské Janovice announced an urban planning competition for the modifications of the city center

Uhlířské Janovice – Uhlířské Janovice have announced an urban design competition for a new look of the city center. Teams of urban planners and architects can submit proposals until the end of January. In addition to the reconstruction of the square, it is necessary to find a new location for the bus station and other city investments. Construction work could start in at least two years, with costs becoming known only next year, said Mayor Petr Barták (Janovice Jinak) to ČTK.

"It will definitely be divided into several phases, and we anticipate that there will be grants for each phase," stated the mayor.

The leadership of the three-thousand-strong town has been preparing the project for about five years, and the architectural competition follows meetings with local citizens who could contribute to the project brief. An independent jury is expected to select five proposals that their authors will further develop. The city will sign a contract with the best one for the preparation of the final plan.

The main impetus for announcing the competition was the situation at Václavské náměstí, which has long served as a bus station and parking lot. Buses stand right next to the historic church and far from the train station. In order for the city to reconstruct the square, it must first find a new location for the buses. The lands of the former state farm are offered for this purpose, as well as other areas owned by the city.

In preparing the project, the city defined a broad area that includes both the square and other areas for urban investments. The competition brief includes the reconstruction of the square, placing a new bus station, as well as a new sports hall and municipal housing. The task of the architects will be to find suitable plots for the placement of city investments, for the completion of vacant areas, and for the enhancement of the network of public spaces.
