The leadership of the Prague district Zbraslav has set a goal to create a quality public space that encourages public life while finding a suitable transportation solution in which pedestrians, public transport, and individual car traffic form a logical whole. The subject of the open competition was to find a functional solution for the main square in the historical development of the municipality of Prague-Zbraslav.
The jury selected from a total of 31 submitted complete proposals. The first place was awarded to the proposal by Luboš Františák, Viktor Schwab, and Matěj Ondruch from Brno. The proposal from the studio tečka and Atelier RENO, authored by Luboš Klabík, Tomáš Klapka, Jitka Žambochová, Jaroslav Malina, Natálie Polesňáková, Kristýna Cmíralová, and Jiří Koudelka from Benešov, took second place. The third place went to the proposal from Prague creators Ondřej Tuček, Jan Binter, Anna Blažková, and Matouš Štrba.
All three winning proposals largely met the requirements of the assignment and fulfilled the client's expectations. The jury also awarded two other successful proposals with a special prize. “I was pleasantly surprised by the large number and quality of the submitted proposals. Any of the three winning proposals could reliably solve the traffic situation in the square and would significantly enhance the quality of the public space.” said Zuzana Vejvodová, the mayor of the Prague-Zbraslav municipality, on behalf of the client.
The results of the competition were approved by the city council at its meeting on September 23, 2020. There will be a negotiation procedure without publication regarding the contract with the three awarded individuals. The reconstruction of the square is also one of the projects within the program of participation coordinators, which addresses effective involvement and cooperation of various entities in planning investments in the capital city.
The public can get acquainted with the competition proposals at an exhibition, which will be accessible from September 29 at the City House in Prague-Zbraslav during library opening hours.
