The winner of this year's Mies van der Rohe Award is the renovation of an apartment building in Bordeaux

Brussels - At today’s press conference, the European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation announced the winner of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - the Mies van der Rohe Award 2019. The winner is the transformation of 530 apartments in the Grand Parc complex in Bordeaux, France by the architectural studios Lacaton & Vassal architectes, Frédéric Druot Architecture, and Christophe Hutin Architecture. The investor was the public municipal company Aquitanis.

The award for emerging architects went to the studio BAST from Toulouse for the extension of a dining room to a school for 61 students in the French town of Montbrun-Bocage.

The award ceremony will take place at the Mies Pavilion in Barcelona on Tuesday, May 7.
