Zlín - Zlín is preparing the completion of the town hall building in Míru Square. It already knows the winner of the architectural competition. Four competition teams submitted proposals for the extension, of which the team of Apropos Architects and A.B.S best met the competition conditions, said Tomáš Melzer, spokesman for the Zlín town hall, in a press release today.
"We chose the procurement procedure in the form of a competitive dialogue, which is a more demanding and time-consuming process from an organizational point of view, but beneficial for both parties. We had the opportunity to communicate with the competitors during the competition, correct their proposals and clarify the assignment. Thanks to that, we gained a winning proposal, which will add value both for the municipality and especially for the citizens, for whom we placed great emphasis in the project," said Mayor Jiří Korec (ANO).
In preparation for the town hall extension, project documentation will be developed and a construction permit procedure will begin; the construction will be challenging due to its location in a gap between two buildings, Korec stated. "Based on experiences with similar projects, construction is not expected to start before 2025," he added.
The main reason for announcing the competition was the emergency condition of building number 10, which adjoins the town hall and is currently empty and temporarily stabilized. "The condition of building number 15 on Bartošova Street is also poor, which is also partially vacated. We managed to obtain the consent of the National Heritage Institute for the demolition of the original building no. 10, and immediately afterward, we proceeded to announce the competition for the completion of the town hall. Now, almost exactly a hundred years after the construction of the current town hall according to the design of F. L. Gahura, we can appropriately complete the town hall complex and provide all citizens, who need to deal with something at the town hall, the corresponding service at the level of the 21st century. We would like the town hall to be open and functional and also appropriately complement the square," said Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO). There will be meeting rooms, offices for the municipality, and a bistro and café at the entrance to building number 10.
Two phases are planned, the first involves replacing building number 10. The estimated investment amount is approximately 90 million crowns excluding VAT. The second phase concerns the possibilities of completing the inner courtyard of the town hall and replacing building number 15.
