Architect Hunter Adam Štěch at FA ČVUT: The Elements Exhibition Will Showcase Unique Details of 20th Century Architecture and Interiors
Adam Štěch hunts for hidden gems of modernism across continents. At the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT, he will exhibit over 3,000 photographs that map unexplored chapters in the history of applied arts. The installation, which is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the independence of FA ČVUT, will also highlight the role of personalities associated with the school within the global modernist movement. The exhibition's opening, combined with a lecture, will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 6:30 PM.
Historian and researcher Adam Štěch (@okolo_architecture) is known in both the Czech and international contexts for his articles and curatorial projects, which he often works on under the brand Okolo in a team with Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss. His great passion is the search for often-forgotten architectural gems of the 20th century. He seeks to map not only the buildings themselves but also their interiors, which often originated as custom-designed works in the past.
For the exhibition, he selected thousands of his own photographs and presents them as an atlas of architectural and interior details created by architects and designers as part of their comprehensive architectural concepts. The collection is divided into sections such as lighting, seating furniture, storage spaces, railings, tables, doors, handles, windows, and floors. It shows the diversity, formal differences, and similarities of decorative and functional elements. By comparing related elements, one can analyze the contexts and transformations of architecture and design on a global scale. Approximately one-tenth of the collection recalls the works of personalities who were active at ČVUT.
The photographs presented in the form of paper prints on aluminum frames can be viewed in the atriums of the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT until May 15, 2026. The official opening will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 6:30 PM, when Adam Štěch will present a lecture titled Around the World for Modernism. A guided tour of the exhibition will take place on May 11, 2026, at 6:30 PM.
