The exhibition by Miller Maranta Architekten will take place from April 1 to May 1, 2020
České Budějovice – Today, the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Architecture – House of Art in České Budějovice opened a new season with an exhibition of drawings created by the South Bohemian artist Roman Brichcín. This year it will also feature painters Josef Bolf, Marco Tirelli from Italy, Spanish architects Barozzi Veiga Architects, and posthumously Lawrence Carroll. Last year, about 10,000 people visited the gallery. In 2021, František Skála will also exhibit there. Michal Škoda, the gallery curator, told ČTK today.
This year, the House of Art will prepare eight exhibitions. The curator described Tirelli's exhibition, which will start on February 20, as very important. "He works with the language of geometry, but it’s a lot about life, memory, and space. On three walls, there will be diary images; they are incredibly powerful things. You get the feeling that the things are floating, levitating on the canvases,” said the curator.
The House of Art will also host the Swiss studio Miller & Maranta Architekten, photographer Ivan Pinkava, architect Petr Hájek, and the Spanish studio Barozzi Veiga Architects. The gallery will also present works created by the Australian painter Lawrence Carroll (1954 to 2019). After 20 years, Josef Bolf, who had one of his first exhibitions there, will return to the House of Art.
The gallery has been led by Michal Škoda since 1998. In 2010, the council wanted to abolish it, but after protests, which included Zdeněk Svěrák, they backed down from this intention. The city hall is the founder; this year it provided the House of Art with a contribution of 1.3 million CZK. The gallery receives a grant of about one million from the Ministry of Culture.
