Erich Mendelsohn is among the most significant German architects of the 20th century. His buildings were created in Germany, the Soviet Union, Norway, England, Palestine, and the USA. Thanks to his early works: Einstein Tower - an observatory in Potsdam, a hat factory in Luckenwalde, and the reconstruction and expansion of the Rudolf Mosse publishing house in Berlin, he reached the pinnacle of the avant-garde. This was followed by commissions for department stores, shops, private homes, and remodels of retail spaces. The exhibition by curator Regina Stephan presents an extensive overview of Mendelsohn's lifelong work - organized chronologically into thematic groups so that the development of the architect's style can be traced and compared from his early works to his later years. Selected buildings are showcased through designs, construction plans, period photographs, and 22 models. The exhibition was conceived by the Institute for Foreign Relations.
