In Zurich, Switzerland, the internationally respected architect, sculptor, and painter Santiago Calatrava will present both his free work and architectural models in Prague, which will bring us closer to his most significant realizations scattered around the world. One of his enigmatic works is the World Trade Center terminal in New York, completed in 2016, shaped like outstretched wings. His first building in the USA was the extension of the Milwaukee Art Museum by Saarinen, where he used a similar principle with moving wings. However, he has also created a whole range of outstanding bridge constructions (more than 50 in the 1980s and 1990s), including others on the Grand Canal in Venice or the String Bridge in Jerusalem. Among his largest projects is the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, 1991–2005, from where he originates. In his architectural work, he draws from the daily operation of a drawing studio of the human body, from the morphology of engineering structures, and last but not least, from geometrically formulated sculptural works. He is a holder of the Perret Prize for Architecture (1987), the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects (2005), and the European Prize for Architecture 2015. He has exhibited in the past at MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
