In one of the bends of the meandering Thames in East London, a multifunctional block framed by three towers and a winter garden in the middle is set to be created near the Millennium Dome according to a project by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. On an area of 100,000 m², offices, apartments, and a hotel are to be built, with a 25-meter-high glass gallery lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes. This is also Calatrava's first project in the UK. The billion-pound construction is part of a larger urban project, Greenwich Peninsula, by Allies&Morrison, which is expected to cost 8.4 billion pounds and provide 15,720 new apartments. It is difficult to read Calatrava's handwriting in the forty-story buildings; hence, there is a suspended pedestrian bridge where Calatrava demonstrates his engineering skills. The spiderweb roofing of the 25-meter-high winter garden, on the other hand, alludes to Paxton's famous Crystal Palace.
