Ostrava - In the hall of the town hall of the central city district of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz, an exhibition related to the architectural competition for the design of a new apartment building at the intersection of Kostelní and Biskupská Streets will be open to the public from Friday. Visitors will be able to view all competition entries, said CTK spokesperson Andrea Vojkovská.

A total of 48 competitors participated in the architectural competition, including seven from Slovakia, two from Spain, and one each from Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Poland. "Based on the evaluation of the expert jury, the design by architect Michal Palaščák (from Brno) won with a glassed-in lower space and partially glazed apartments," Vojkovská stated.

The apartment building is to be constructed in a gap site very close to the city center itself. "Additionally, the architect divided the building into two structures, allowing a cross alley to reveal a view of St. Wenceslas Church and creating a pedestrian shortcut to this church," Vojkovská added.

The city announced the architectural competition in collaboration with the central district this January. The expert jury described the winning design as contemporary, yet not extravagant.

The new apartment building is one of the ways the city hall aims to revitalize the historic center. The city and the central district have several construction or reconstruction projects for apartment buildings in various stages of development. Approximately 200 apartments should be created in the area. The building in the gap site could ideally be completed by 2022. Interested parties will be able to view the architects' proposals until August 31.
