The beginning of the school year is perhaps the last reasonable opportunity to look back at what happened in the summer.
I mean the exhibition of AVU graduates in the Great Hall of the Trade Fair Palace, specifically the installation of three graduates from the School of Architecture.
The exhibition was to include three graduates from the School of Architecture AVU, Ondřej Dušek, Marek Kopeć, and Petr Souček. We wanted to exhibit together, with a unified concept. The design of the installation ultimately fell to me.
The intention was, on one hand, to create a dim area for projection in the richly illuminated hall, and on the other hand, to find an intermediate stage between the huge scale of the hall and the small exhibits.
I was looking for a way to connect to the existing arrangement of the hall.
Two opposite niches in the middle of the longer walls of the hall seemed to be a good anchoring point.
Pyramid-like shelters were to protrude from these niches. Their shape was derived from the beam expanding from the projector to the screen. The material was one-centimeter MDF boards.
The exhibition curator, Prof. Lindovský, liked the design and incorporated it into the overall concept of the hall.
The inputs from classmates, i.e., the number of projections and models, changed even after the deadline and approval of the overall layout, so in the end only one of the shelters served for the projection of all three works. In the second, we piled up the models.
These changes allowed for further play with the basic shape, omitting some segments of the shell, creating openings that were not anticipated in the first phase.
To our surprise, two additional small buildings with a wedge-shaped plan appeared independently here, built for the installations of Gabriela Jurkovičová and Anders Grønlien, and one more cubic booth, featuring the works of David Böhm...
Our thanks go primarily to the school technologist Mr. Vrzba, to curator Prof. Lindovský, and to exhibition organizer Blanka Čermáková.
