ZLÍN - Tomas Bata University in Zlín (UTB) has prepared a traveling exhibition that presents the design of the planned Congress and University Center, which is set to be built in the center of Zlín within two years. The exhibition could be viewed by the public for the first time today at the shopping center in Zlín-Malenovice, and from mid-April it will travel for two years through several cities in Czechia and Moravia, informed CTK by the rectorate worker Jana Brázdilová.
The exhibition "University Center in Zlín - Creating Architecture of the Third Millennium" consists of computer visualizations of the exteriors and interiors of the future complex, photographs of existing university buildings, and accompanying texts. "One of the panels is dedicated to information about the project author, world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná, who hails from Zlín," said the office worker Andrea Kadlčíková. The Congress and University Center is a joint project of the Zlín city council and the university. The university part will include a library, an auditorium, and lecture halls. The part intended for congress purposes will have a large hall, and the Zlín Philharmonic Bohuslav Martinů will also be based there. Work on the rerouting of engineering networks began last year. The construction of the complex will require more than one billion crowns. While UTB received a half-billion grant for the construction of its part, the city must build the congress center in phases due to financial issues. The city council was unable to secure enough funds from the European Union or the state budget. By dividing the project into phases, they aim to avoid potential financing problems. The underground part of the building will be financed from the money obtained by selling land, and there is also an expected contribution from the state budget. The next phase, with a total value of about 413 million crowns, involves the center's building. For its financing, the city will mainly use 250 million crowns from loan sources.
