Benešov - Benešov has selected a company to prepare documentation for the extensive modernization of the bus station and the construction of a parking garage for 180 million crowns. The design work will cost 2.3 million crowns excluding tax, and the council approved the offer with the lowest price, deputy mayor Roman Tichovský (ODS) told reporters today. According to mayor Jaroslav Hlavnička (Volba pro město), the new transport terminal could start to take shape in 2017. The city wants to obtain funding for the project from the European Union, from the so-called integrated territorial investments (ITI) within the metropolitan area of Prague. "For now, it is at a stage where we are on the list of projects, we are included in the metropolitan area of Prague and we are waiting for all the documents to be approved," said Tichovský. Whether the city will receive the subsidy should be revealed by the city hall in the first half of next year, according to Hlavnička. Then, a tender for the contractor must follow. Tichovský stated that the city would first receive a preliminary decision on the allocation of the subsidy, and the final verdict along with the subsidy contract could be expected only after the competition. "We must be prepared, have the application for the building permit, and select the supplier," Hlavnička added. To increase safety, one of the plans includes extending the underpass from the train station to the bus station. There should also be a separate exit from the underpass leading to the future parking garage, which is set to be built on the land next to the train station. It is intended to serve as a catchment parking lot for motorists who switch to trains or buses in the city. Other Central Bohemian cities are also modernizing their bus stations. In the past, for example, the station in Příbram received a new look. The relocation of the bus station to the train station also began this year in Beroun. The goal is to create an integrated transport hub for the city and its surroundings.
