Ostrava - Bohumín in Karviná wants to transform the area near the housing estate on Aleš Street close to the pedestrian zone in the city center by the end of October. The transformation will cost approximately ten million crowns. In addition to parking spaces, playgrounds and sidewalks will be added to the area, said Lucie Kolková, spokesperson for the town hall to ČTK.
The city had the local tower blocks repaired two years ago and now wants to improve the public spaces nearby. The residents themselves demanded the transformation of the outdated area. Workers have already started relocating networks in the area, and the actual modernization will begin in April.
"It is crucial that we managed to reach an agreement with the network owners on their relocations and to address the comments from private owners; without that, the entire project could not have been realized," said Mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD). The city has been preparing the project for over three years.
Asphalt sidewalks will be replaced with paving stones, and new sidewalks will also be created in places where paths were previously worn by people. The gravel area will be replaced by two children's playgrounds for smaller and larger children.
"We also thought of the smallest children and new play elements will appear on the playgrounds that we do not yet have in Bohumín. A special feature will be, for example, a double swing with one secured seat for infants, or a small sandbox with a closing lid. Around the playgrounds, ten benches will also be added," said Adriana Dudás from the Department of Development and Investments.
Two parking lots will be created in the courtyard for 40 cars, one with an entrance from Aleš Street and the other with an entrance from Spojovací Street. The locations for waste containers will also be transformed, two of which will be covered, and new public lighting and greenery will be added.
