Bohumín (Karvinsko) - Bohumín in the Karvinsko region will begin a complete reconstruction of T. G. Masaryk Square in front of the town hall starting in June. The biggest change will likely be the removal of the parking lot, which will be replaced by a relaxation zone with greenery, said Lucie Balcarová, spokesperson for the Bohumín town hall, to ČTK.

The three-month reconstruction will cost 11 million crowns, but the city has managed to obtain an eight-million crown state grant. In the new square, instead of the current 100 parking spaces, there will only be 13. Drivers will be able to use newly built parking spaces on Masaryk, Komenského, and Husova streets.
"With this phase, the city is almost at the end of the reconstruction of the center," Balcarová stated. The renovation will continue with the reconstruction in front of the K.A.R. cinema, which will also begin to be repaired.
The city center of Bohumín and its municipal parts were hit by a devastating flood in 1997. T. G. Masaryk Square was flooded up to 80 centimeters. The city has been reconstructing the center for several years and has so far invested 36 million crowns in its modifications, while the state has supported the recovery of Bohumín with additional grants totaling 12 million crowns.
