Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav - People in Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav will be able to visit more than ten normally inaccessible monuments and interesting buildings in mid-June. For example, Melichar's villa and the synagogue will be opened in Brandýs, and in Stará Boleslav, the residence building. The first year of a new city event called See the City will take place on June 15 and could continue in the coming years. Kateřina Stránská informed ČTK on behalf of the city.
"Visitors will be able to explore interesting architectural objects that are usually not accessible or can only be visited on special occasions. At each stop, guides will lead them not only through the object itself but also through its history," said Stránská. A brochure with a map will be available to the public, and all sites will be open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event will also include the ceremonial opening of the parish garden at the Brandýs church of St. Peter. The site, which has undergone revitalization, is intended to serve both parishioners and the public.
Participants in the event will be able to visit, for example, the castle brewery, the Brandýs execution site, the building of the baroque Piarist college, and walk through the Jewish quarter, including the synagogue and cemetery. A part of the residence where Ludwig Salvator of Tuscany stayed will also be opened. The main building is now used by the family club Klíček, and the city plans to renovate the former stables and use them as a day care station for seniors. People will also be able to peek into the chapel at the Stará Boleslav cemetery.
Another attraction of the event will be the Neo-Renaissance villa of Brandýs entrepreneur and owner of an agricultural machinery factory, František Melichar, known as Melichar's villa. It was designed by Prague architect Václav Roštlapil, who was also behind the design of the Prague Straka Academy. The building, constructed in 1902, is now owned by the Central Bohemia region; until last year, it was rented by a union school. The region is now looking for further possibilities to utilize the villa, Zuzana Žídková responded to ČTK's inquiry on behalf of the regional office. The area near the villa houses the emergency rescue service's response station. "Currently, a building permit process is underway for the construction of a new base including garages. The building permit process is still not completed," Žídková stated.
