Brno - A large-scale reconstruction of Údolní street in Brno, from Husova to Úvoz, could begin in the second half of summer. The work, costing 365 million crowns excluding tax, will be managed by a consortium of companies Firesta Fišer and Dopravní stavby Brno, which was approved by the city's council today. According to the estimate, it will last 17 months and will restrict traffic, including public transport, said councilor for transport Petr Kratochvíl (ODS).

"We anticipate that Údolní will be closed to drivers in sections, always between individual intersections. Detours will be available for the closed sections, and we are also counting on two-way traffic on some adjacent streets," Kratochvíl stated. Trams will not be running between the Komenského náměstí stop and the náměstí Míru loop. "In this section, passengers will use a replacement bus service, which will operate one way from the Česká junction via Gorkého street and back via Grohová. It will run both ways through a part of the construction site on Údolní street from Úvoz towards náměstí Míru," the councilor added.

Trolleybus line 38 will be diverted via Úvoz to Konečného náměstí. Line 39 will be canceled. However, according to the project, there should be shorter intervals on line 35 and the bus line 68 will also be strengthened. Lines 25 and 26 will remain in operation except for short interruptions necessary due to work on the trolley line. They may be temporarily replaced by buses. The city is preparing an information campaign to provide accurate information about construction-related restrictions to people from the surrounding areas. "It is clear that it will not be easy. The street is especially busy towards the city center," noted the councilor.

Repairs will involve the sewer system, water supply, sidewalks, public lighting, tram tracks, and trolleybus lines as well as boarding islands. "We will use the reconstruction to bring the street into the form of the 21st century, so we are also counting on a new bike lane in the direction from the center in the section Marešova–Úvoz or adding greenery. Part of the construction also includes the creation of 1,380 square meters of parking spaces, parking lanes, and stands, which corresponds to approximately 110 parking spots," added Deputy Mayor René Černý (ANO).
