Brno - Brno will allocate 215 million crowns for the reconstruction of the Riviéra swimming pool. The city council approved the grant for the municipal company Starez-Sport, which manages it. The pools will be stainless steel, and new attractions will be added. The reason for the work is massive water leakage, said Mayor's Deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters. According to him, half of the water taken from the water supply disappears from the pools daily. The repairs are expected to start in the autumn and finish next year before the holidays.
Currently, the pools are concrete. "Fifteen years ago, they were repaired with ceramic tiles, which, however, have already deteriorated in such a short time, and there are huge water leaks. Some Brno residents think that the water in Riviéra is from the river, but that is not the case. It comes from the water supply, and the Starez company pays for it. Half of the volume of the pools is lost daily, seeping into the ground," said Hladík.
The basis of the reconstruction is to line all three pools with a stainless-steel basin. "The chosen technology is the most durable. The lifespan should be more than 30 years. Once the season ends this year, we will close Riviéra and carry out the work. The expectation is that we will open it in May or June next year so that it does not impact the summer season," added Hladík.
Besides the pools, the swimming area will also undergo other changes. "New features will be added to both the children's and the swimming pool. There will be new footbridges, a slide, a waterslide, and other things," added the deputy.
Riviéra is a popular recreational area and one of the largest natural swimming pools in the country. Its history in the Svratka valley dates back to the 19th century. The daily capacity is about 7,000 people. In addition to swimming, it also offers courts for beach volleyball.
