Brno - Brno is seeking a company to prepare the project documentation and then construct an athletic hall in the university campus for 450 million crowns. This is the first time Brno is looking for a contractor under the conditions of the so-called Yellow Book, Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO) told reporters today. This means that the winner of the tender will develop all stages of the project documentation and also carry out the construction. It is common to first prepare the documentation and then look for an implementer. The hall will have a capacity of 2,000 spectators. It will serve athletes who do not have a hall. The facility should be completed in 2020.

The council approved the assignment of the tender. "We would like the competition to be completed this year. The hall will be located in the Bohunice campus right across from the Faculty of Sports Studies. It will have parameters meeting the criteria of the international athletics federation for national and international competitions," Mrázek stated.

According to him, the building's lifespan will be several decades, possibly even 100 years. A technical study has already been created, which will serve as the basis for the contractor. The contractor will have to prepare project documentation for zoning decisions and building permits and then build the facility. This procedure follows the conditions of the so-called Yellow Book, which is an established international contractual model in construction according to the city.

The costs for the construction of the hall will be covered by the city, state, and region. In the past, the city committed to the construction of the hall in a memorandum signed by Masaryk University and the Czech Athletic Federation alongside it.

At the beginning of the year, despite opposition criticism, the Brno council approved a land exchange with a private owner, from whom Brno obtained land for the construction of the hall. While the opposition supports the construction, they argue that the exchange was not advantageous for the city.

In addition to athletes, the neighboring Masaryk University will also use the hall. It will also serve for scientific research activities with the aim of enhancing the training process for athletes. City officials claim that a covered athletics hall is lacking in South Moravia, which is why athletes primarily have to use various gymnasiums for training during the autumn and winter months.
