Brno - Brno wants to revitalize the embankment of the Svratka River in the section from the Riviéra swimming pool to the viaduct on Uhelná Street in the coming years. The costs are expected to reach around 340 million crowns. Flood protection measures will be established, as well as a promenade for pedestrians, a route for cyclists, and cafes. This was announced to journalists today by the mayor's deputy Martin Ander (SZ) and Patrik Tuza from the A Plus company, which participated in the creation of the proposal. The aim is to revitalize the riverbed. According to Ander, the city will apply for a grant of 120 million, and everything should be completed by the end of 2022.
The designers have completed the proposal, and now they await the preparation of the project for the land use permit. "The EIA documentation is almost finished as well, so everything is running smoothly to ensure that the works follow one another and that the construction can be completed and handed over to the public by the end of 2022," said Ander.
According to Tuza, the goal is to revitalize the embankment of the Svratka River. "The works include flood protection which will unblock the possibility of construction in today's floodplain in the future. We also want to incorporate the river into the lives of the residents, create an environment for walking, leisure, and sports, and connect pedestrian and cycling transport between the reservoir area and Komárov," added Tuza.
According to Ander, the current concrete riverbed is almost inaccessible to the public. "Thanks to the project, the area will transform into a wide active park with a promenade by the water and separate cycling paths. A café or piers by the water will not be missed. By widening the riverbed, the Svratka River in the city center will regain its natural character. The modifications will also protect the surroundings from the threat of flooding during floods," Ander added.
In addition, Brno is also preparing other flood protection projects on the Svratka in Komárov, on the Svitava in Husovice, and on the Old Ponávka at several locations near the center.
