Brno - Brno will build two buildings on Vojtova Street for 320 million crowns, which will include starter apartments and apartments for seniors with care services. Originally, there were supposed to be 116 apartments, but the city will increase their number to 134, said the city mayor's deputy Klára Liptáková (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. Construction will begin in 2017, once all necessary documents are resolved. It could be completed by the end of the same year. The project was already prepared by the former city administration. "Originally, there were supposed to be 73 starter apartments and 43 for seniors. However, we will reverse the ratio and create 86 apartments for seniors and 48 starter apartments. In total, we will increase the number by 18," Liptáková said. The new buildings are expected to provide a home for two hundred people. "In an assisted living facility, there can be two people in an apartment, while starter apartments can accommodate, for example, a family with two children," Liptáková added. According to her, the reason for the change is the fact that there is a greater demand for housing for seniors than for starter apartments. "We can also create starter apartments in municipal housing, but we cannot create assisted living facilities for seniors in them. It has its regulations and it is not that simple," Liptáková said. The buildings will include care services, a branch of the Jiří Mahen Library, a café, a cultural and educational center, and there will be parking spaces nearby. Brno has about fifty assisted living facilities that offer around 900 apartments. The city has about 1000 applicants waiting for a place. In addition, Brno has about 20 senior homes with a total capacity of over 2000 beds. The number of applicants for placement in these facilities is the same.
