Kutná Hora - The former stables in the area of the Central Bohemian Gallery (GASK) in Kutná Hora are set to be transformed into a multifunctional hall where congresses and cultural performances will be held. The capacity could be nearly 800 seats, half of which should be for sitting. If everything goes smoothly and funding is secured, construction could begin next year, said the gallery's director Jana Šorfová to ČTK.
In the past, the building served as a riding hall for Austrian officers, and today visitors park there. According to Šorfová, there is enough parking space in the area. Additionally, new spaces will be created in another part of the park, so the overall capacity will remain unchanged.
According to the councilor for culture Karel Horčička (ČSSD), the renovation costs could be around 20 million crowns. He noted that there is a lack of similarly large spaces in the area and its surroundings. "We have analyses that indicate there is interest," he stated.
The hall, according to Horčička, will not only be used by the region, but will also be available for rent, thus providing a new source of income for the gallery. Šorfová also pointed out that during inclement weather in the summer, opera performances held outdoors could be moved inside without the need for cancellation.
The Central Bohemian Gallery is located in a former Jesuit college. It focuses on visual arts from the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to permanent collections, it organizes numerous exhibitions and accompanying programs.
