Cheb - The former barracks on Zlatý vrch in Cheb is awaiting the demolition of the last building this year. At the same time, the city will begin preparations for new development. However, regulations should limit this in one of the most interesting parts of the city, said the city's deputy mayor Michal Pospíšil (ODS) to ČTK.

"This area is so valuable that it deserves to have some harmony and unity," said Pospíšil. "There is consideration, for example, for the construction of apartment buildings in the lower levels of the slope so that they are visible over them and no one is looking into someone else's kitchen," he added.

The city has three million crowns in this year's budget for the preparation of the project - a basis for zoning approval and building permits. Besides the layout of engineering networks and roads, it should already address basic parceling of the land, according to Pospíšil.

By the time the project is completed, the last house that remained in the former barracks area should also be demolished, namely the former Betlém facility, which cared for the homeless and moved last year to new premises on Vrázová Street.

The city acquired the barracks area from the army more than ten years ago for free, but with a ten-year condition of non-commercial use. This has blocked the use of the land on the slope above the city with a view of the historic town center.
