The town will prepare a large residential zone in the former barracks near the center

Cheb - Cheb is gradually preparing a large development zone for housing and relaxation in the former barracks on Zlatý Vrch near the historical center. It has a completed urban study of more than one hundred hectares, which also defines the buildings designated for demolition. The new city council will now decide what to do next with the zone and will commission a project for the territorial decision. There are several options, said Mayor Pavel Vanoušek (Czech Social Democratic Party).
    "I see it as the most reasonable to prepare some plots for sale, for example for the construction of apartment and family houses, and we would use the money raised for the development of communications and infrastructure in the area," he stated. It is not a zone for manufacturing, but mainly for housing, parks, relaxation, and care homes, as well as shops, restaurants, or hairdressers.
    "One option is to announce a tender and hand it all over to a developer. It could also be fully invested by the city, or we could divide it into parts. The city could take care of some, and sell parts to other entities for use," Vanoušek mentioned.
    According to the mayor, most of the original military buildings will be demolished, as they are unusable. Some have already been demolished, while most have been devastated by people. Many buildings are in a state of emergency.
    The first thing to be built would need to be roads, which the city could pay for. A new road would lead to the adjacent Špitálský Vrch, where there are also plots for the construction of apartment buildings. Both areas are well connected to the city's communication system.
    The barracks on attractive plots on the southern slope were acquired by the city from the state 12 years ago. However, it could not sell them for ten years, which significantly limited their use. There is only a shelter there.
