Děčín - Děčín is looking for a city architect who would defend the interests of the city council in negotiations with investors or prepare urban planning. CTK was informed of this today by the town hall spokesperson Markéta Lakomá. Děčín aims to fill the position by autumn. The same role has already been established by the town hall in Ústí nad Labem, and an architect is working part-time at the Most town hall.
The architect's responsibilities in Děčín will also include communication with the public, consulting and advisory activities in the fields of architecture, urbanism, spatial planning, the environment, and heritage preservation. “It is not easy to fill this position with a truly qualified expert. We have been conducting various negotiations for a long time and have also attended several lectures organized by the Czech Chamber of Architects. Now we are clear on how we will select such a person and what we will actually require from them,” said Deputy Mayor Valdemar Grešík.
Děčín hopes that by hiring an architect, after many years, it will gain an expert who will ensure a conceptual approach to revitalizations of parts of the city as well as in new constructions. They will participate, for example, in the urban-architectural development of the city, the creation of public spaces, the care of historical heritage, the preparation of architectural competitions, and similar activities. “Preparations for the selection process are currently in full swing. It is very important that we choose well. A commission composed of key figures among architects and representatives of the city will assist us in this,” Grešík stated.
Ústí nad Labem also has a chief architect. An architect works part-time for Most. Chomutov also consults with architects. The last time was when considering what to do with the former city baths building in the city center. “We do not have a separate position for a city architect, but we are trying to strengthen the department responsible for strategic planning and city development. We would like projects to be conceptually interconnected and to have a certain historical continuity,” said Chomutov town hall spokesperson Jan Rödling to CTK.
