Vsetín – The demolition of the former paint and varnish shop building will begin in February, marking the planned transformation of the space in front of and behind the railway station in Vsetín. The city will allocate around a quarter of a billion crowns for the modifications over the next four years, spokesperson of the Vsetín City Hall Jana Raszková informed CTK today. The Czech Railways is simultaneously continuing with initial work on the reconstruction of the Vsetín railway station, into which it intends to invest nearly 3.4 billion crowns within the same timeframe.
After the completion of the work, Vsetín will have a modern transport terminal connecting rail and bus transport, according to city hall representatives, the number of parking spaces will also increase, and the transport infrastructure will improve. "The building of the former paints and varnishes will give way to new plans for the use of the space it occupies. In the near future, this area is expected to be partially impacted by the relocated railway siding leading to the Tomáš Baťa Forests and Estates complex as well as a new bus station, including access roads to the planned parking garage," said mayor Jiří Růžička (KDU-ČSL).
Demolition work will cost just under a million crowns and will take about two months. In connection with the planned reconstruction, Vsetín will also announce two key tenders this year. "We will separately tender for the construction transformation of the area in front of the station and separately for the area behind the station. I believe everything will proceed without major problems and we will be able to start the construction work this year," the mayor stated.
According to him, the city intends to start building a bridge over the mill race near the volleyball courts at Na Lapači behind the station. "In front of the station, it should primarily involve the beginning of the construction of an underpass under Nádražní Street, which will connect the underground parking located under Náměstí Jarmily Šulákové with the future new dispatch building. The underpass will then lead further under the tracks and onto Lapač, with this part being implemented by the Czech Railways," Růžička stated.
According to him, due to the construction of the station, it is necessary to reconstruct the sewage system in U Hřiště Street this year. Meanwhile, according to spokesperson Dušan Gavenda, Czech Railways is working at the Vsetín railway station and in the section towards Ústí on the traction network. "This primarily involves the construction of the foundations for the traction network and the installation of poles. Preparations for access roads to the construction are also underway," Gavenda said.
This year, work will be done on the construction of buildings for signaling devices, a refueling station, and a transport terminal. "Additionally, there will be work on cable routes and roads, including bridges. In the direction towards Valašská Polanka, the railway superstructure and substructure will be reconstructed. During the year, further work on bridge structures, noise barriers, and signaling devices is planned in this section," Gavenda added.
The area around the station will change significantly, a new feeder road will be created from the direction of Zlín, as well as a roundabout. A private investor plans to build apartments there, and the city is preparing investments in roads and parking lots. Czech Railways will concurrently build a new dispatch building, which will serve as a common check-in terminal for rail and bus transport. Additionally, builders will create three railway platforms, new underpasses, and a parking garage.
