Vsetín - The new train station, including the transport terminal building in Vsetín, will open on May 3rd. The spokesperson for the Vsetín town hall, Jana Raszková, informed ČTK today. The reconstruction of the railway station, costing approximately 3.4 billion crowns, was initiated by the Railway Administration at the end of 2021. While the finishing touches are being made to the work, the city of Vsetín, in cooperation with the Zlín Region Road Administration, is preparing to commence the second, more extensive phase of the redevelopment of the area in front of the station, Raszková stated.
"The subject of this is the construction of new transport infrastructure and a bus station around the newly completed transport terminal and parking garage. These are works that, considering technological processes, could not be carried out concurrently with the reconstruction of the train station, and therefore had to wait for its completion," the spokesperson said.
In the first phase of the redevelopment of the area in front of the station, the city is completing the construction of an underpass beneath Nádražní street. The underpass will connect the underground parking lot of the Smetanova shopping gallery with the transport terminal, linking to the underpass built by the Railway Administration under the railway and platforms, which will lead to an area behind the station at Na Lapači.
This will be followed by the second phase. "It includes the reconstruction of Nádražní street in the section from the intersection with Svárov street to the polyclinic building, in front of which a new roundabout will be built. It will also include the construction of a road that will ensure vehicle access to the parking garage and exit from it, as well as a new bus station. This will be moved from the existing premises closer to the train station. A part of the bus stops designated primarily for suburban connections will be located between the parking garage and the railway, while another part will be positioned between the railway and the transport terminal. This will significantly simplify and shorten transfers between buses and trains for travelers," stated mayor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL).
"In the coming days, we will sign a contract with the contractor, who will then commence construction work. The main part will last until the end of 2025. Another half a year will see the continuation of less significant works," the mayor stated. According to him, the construction in front of the station will not threaten the transport service of the nearby Vsetín hospital.
Work is also being done behind the station. "At the beginning of April, we demolished the temporary bridge over the mill race next to the new railway underpass at U Křivačkárny, and we will start building a new one there. Furthermore, we are completing the construction of another bridge over the race near the sports hall and volleyball courts at Na Lapači. The Railway Administration is finalizing the construction of a new access road to the area behind the station from the roundabout at Kotova in Rokytnice. This should be completed in May," Čunek stated.
