Brno - Developer CTP Invest is trying to reach an agreement with the representatives of Brno that could revitalize the Amazon project. The American internet retail company wants to establish a massive logistics center in the Černovice industrial zone, but the Brno city council's vote last Friday prevented this. Following Tuesday's meeting with Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD), CTP drafted a proposal for a contract amendment that could satisfy both parties, said CTP's regional director Tomáš Budař to CTK today. The contract would involve the construction of an highway exit and would also provide a guarantee that construction could begin immediately upon signing. "In the contract, we would include both the city's requirement for us to participate in the construction of the highway exit and our requirement to start building as soon as possible and to have sufficient guarantees. Now the mayor and ODS need to respond to this," said Budař. This political party effectively torpedoed the agreement. Last Friday, they presented a proposal for a new amendment that was unacceptable to CTP, and unlike the representatives of ČSSD, the second coalition party, they did not vote for the original version of the contract. "We feel, however, that both parties want to reach an agreement, so we would like to realize the project," Budař added. The question, however, is how Amazon perceives the current situation. "So far we have no information from them, they are silent, and we do not know what is happening, which does not help us much. It may happen that they actually withdraw from the project," said Budař. Amazon intended to build a distribution center in Brno, which would employ at least 1500 people, and many more around Christmas time. However, there is still no highway exit, which the government wanted to build back in 2000, and the land has not yet been purchased, which is the biggest issue and the greatest delay in time. The current government claims that the exit is one of the transportation priorities. Local residents in the districts of Slatina, Tuřany, Chrlice, and Černovice are already suffering from increased traffic; Amazon would further increase it, while the exit may likely not be completed until around 2020.
