Prague - The government will discuss the situation regarding the possible construction of a warehouse for the American online retailer Amazon in Brno at its meeting on Monday. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (ČSSD) believes that there is still a chance to secure this investment for Moravia. Vanesa Šandová from the government's press office informed CTK today. According to her, Brno Mayor Roman Onderka was also invited to the meeting.
    "I believe that there is still a chance to bring the entire project to a successful conclusion and secure a major investment for South Moravia, along with the creation of 1500 jobs," Sobotka stated.
    The government is currently awaiting Amazon's response on whether it still wants to build its logistics center in Brno. Amazon representatives have taken time to consider after the Brno city council approved the sale of the necessary land in the Černovická terasa industrial zone to the developer CTP Invest for the fourth time in mid-April.
     The developer has already published its intention to build Amazon's warehouse in Brno again in the EIA information system, seeking to assess the project's environmental impact. The South Moravian region has also posted a notice of intent on its official board.
    After the previous three refusals from the Brno city council regarding the sale of land to CTP Invest in early April, Amazon announced that it no longer counted on Brno. However, following the subsequent approval from the council, company representatives met with Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek. Sobotka then said at the end of April that he expected a clear stance from Amazon regarding the warehouse construction within one to two months.
    Amazon promises an investment of nearly three billion crowns and 1500 jobs in Brno. Residents of the nearby urban areas, however, fear the increased traffic, which they believe is already beyond sustainable limits.
    In Dobrovíz near Prague, the developer has already reached an agreement with the local government. The number of jobs in Amazon's logistics center there is expected to be the same as in Brno.
