Brno - The development company CTP Invest today assured Brno Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) in a letter that it still wants to locate an Amazon logistics warehouse at the Černovická terrace even after three rejections by the council, regional director of CTP Tomáš Budař informed ČTK, who made the letter available to the media. CTP also mentioned that two years ago it considered land near Brno Airport, which was offered to Amazon two weeks ago by the South Moravian Region. For three months, it closely evaluated the Brno Airport Logistic Park (BALP) project, which was prepared by Brno Airport, but it was not suitable, Budař wrote in the letter. So far, the region likely has not received Amazon's stance, ČTK is checking the current status. Amazon is not commenting on investments in the Czech Republic, informed its spokesperson in the Czech Republic, Vladimír Bystrov. According to Budař, the land near the airport is unsuitable for Amazon for several reasons, but governor Michal Hašek (ČSSD) considers CTP's statement to be a purposefully crafted statement by the developer. "We know that several other developers were also interested in the BALP project, but they too did not express interest in the project," stated Budař. The BALP project was created nearly ten years ago, in 2007 a building permit was issued for it. However, so far only an electrical connection has been brought to the boundary of the land. Hašek claims that he is not aware of anyone offering land near the airport to Amazon. Budař, on the other hand, states in the letter that when Amazon was selecting the most suitable location for the warehouse, this site was also presented to them. Budař mentions the reasons why the location near the airport is unsuitable. "The current zoning plan does not permit the construction of logistics halls on a large part of the land because it is designated for transport," he stated. It is estimated that this concerns about a third of the area. The northeastern corner is designated for a future high-speed line to Přerov. A high-pressure gas pipeline also runs through the center of the land from north to south. According to CTP, a maximum of 75,000 m² can be utilized for the construction of halls, while Amazon plans a hall of 95,000 m². "This location is therefore unsuitable for Amazon's investment in both spatial and temporal terms," Budař stated. The Brno council will vote again on the sale of land to CTP on April 15. It has already rejected it three times. Gradually, the developer's involvement in the exit from the D1 highway has been resolved; now, the zoning plan is an obstacle for the coalition ODS. Currently, it does not allow the construction of logistics warehouses in the area. The process of its update should be completed with the voting of the May council. The only question is how the ODS will behave, which last gave Amazon only two votes out of 14, missing three votes for approval. "I still support the location near the airport, as I said last week. For the residents of Slatina and other city districts, it is a much more acceptable option that will not burden them with traffic as much," stated the chairman of the ODS council club, Libor Šťástka, who is waiting for any potential correction of opinion until Amazon clearly expresses itself. "Communication with them is not completely ideal. CTP still claims that they do not want the land near the airport, while Amazon hinted that it could be considered," Šťástka told ČTK.
