Ostrava - The private Ostrava Theatre Mír plans to build a new stage in Ostrava-Vítkovice. The new theatre is to be created not far from the current one. It will be located where there is currently a parking lot. The estimated cost of its construction is around 400 million crowns. The theatre wants to finance the construction from its own resources. It is looking for investors and has also requested contributions from fans. During the first days of the crowdfunding campaign, people contributed nearly 11 million crowns. This was reported by project spokesperson Gabriela Vágner to ČTK.

The current Theatre Mír will remain in its place, and just about 130 meters from it, on the current large parking lot at Jiřího z Poděbrad Square in Ostrava-Vítkovice, a new modern building should be created. "We have agreed with the city of Ostrava to build an underground parking lot under the theatre, which will serve everyone who currently uses it when commuting to work, and of course also visitors to the new theatre," added the director and actor of Theatre Mír, Albert Čuba.

The building will consist of three theatre halls. The largest hall will have a horseshoe-shaped auditorium, and the stage will resemble a long pier. This will allow very close contact between the actors and the audience with a capacity of 532 seats. The central pier facilitates the creation of specific productions designed "to measure." The middle hall will have a capacity of 270 spectators and will be a multifunctional space. "The smallest hall will be a white abstract cube with an infinite floor and ceiling, which will enable exceptional and original creations such as light productions, fashion shows, recitals, or galleries," added architect Andrea Jašková.

The artistic director and actor Štěpán Kozub looks forward to the new theatre, according to whom the repertoire of the theatre will be split into two scenes in the future. "Audiences are used to coming to Theatre Mír for the comedic genre; that will remain. And in the new theatre, we want, among other things, to offer a wider and more diverse range. Audiences will see, for example, a musical, drama, or classical pieces," added the Ostrava actor.

If the team at Theatre Mír manages to secure the necessary financing this year, the expected start of construction is planned for 2027, and the new theatre should open by the end of 2030.

The current theatre has been operated by Čuba and his team since 2016. It was created in the building of a former cinema, which served as a market before the reconstruction. "Over the past seven years, more than 200,000 spectators have passed through Theatre Mír, and we have presented over 20 theatre productions," stated Čuba.
