Dobřichovice has welcomed an expansion of the kindergarten
The exterior and interior of the extension were designed by architects from Jestico + Whiles.
The impetus for the extension was the insufficient capacity of the nursery school, whose existing building was constructed in the 1970s. The project was part of extensive investments by the Dobřichovice municipal office in educational facilities, and besides the nursery school, the primary school was recently expanded with an extension as well. The structural system composed of innovative prefabricated wooden panels allowed the building's framework to be completed in just 3 weeks.
The project was co-financed by the European Union, and its goal was to expand the existing nursery school with two additional classrooms, which can also serve as a gymnasium. This was achieved thanks to specially designed furniture that can be easily moved, allowing the space to be used as a small gymnasium as well.
In addition to the extension, the architects also renovated the ground floor of the existing building, including improvements to the kitchen facilities and enhancement of the direct access from all educational spaces to the surrounding gardens. The extension features a high level of thermal insulation and natural ventilation. The city's requirement was to create a sustainable building that fits into the context of other public buildings in the city, and for this reason, natural cedar wood was used on the exterior facade.

Thanks to the renovation, up to 150 children can attend the nursery school, making it the largest facility for preschool children in the entire Praha – západ district.
