Doksy (Českolipsko) - The Máj Cinema in Doksy, located in the Českolipsko region and designed by Karel Hubáček, the creator of the transmitter on Ještěd, has been equipped with digital technology by the city. The investment of approximately three million crowns ensures that the cinema can continue to operate, reported ČTK today, Mayor Eva Burešová said. This should be appreciated not only by the residents of Doksy but also by people who head for recreation at Lake Mácha in the summer. The city received a grant of 600,000 crowns from the State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography for the cinema's digitization. This is not the last investment in the city cinema. "We have already approved another one million crowns for cinema repairs this year, as the cinema deserves it from an architectural standpoint," Burešová stated. The cinema is not only for film lovers. It also hosts small theater performances, and its vestibule will now serve as a space for small exhibitions. Without digitization, the cinema would face closure. "Non-digital copies of films are practically no longer produced in the Czech Republic, so cinemas that are not equipped with this technology are essentially doomed to extinction," explained Miloslav Lomič, the dramaturge of the Máj cinema. The opening ceremony of the cinema's operation is planned by the town hall for Tuesday, March 20, at 7:00 PM. Half an hour later, the film "Čtyři slunce" by Bohdan Sláma will be screened. The cinema will also offer other attractions. "This year, a premiere of the filmed comic Four-leaf Clover is also planned," noted the mayor. Doksy is the inspiration for the comic Třeskoprsky, and the quartet of characters created by Jaroslav Němeček—Myšpulín, Fifinka, Pinďa, and Bobík—has had its own museum in the city since last year. According to original plans, the Máj cinema, opened in 1963, was to be digitized by the end of last year. This was delayed by issues with the tender process.
