Jablonec nad Nisou – The new transport terminal in Jablonec nad Nisou will cost 471 million korunas; it will be built by Eurovia CZ, which won the public competition. The largest investment project in the modern history of the city addresses not only the check-in hall and platforms but also the adjacent park and the revitalization of the surrounding area of the Lužická Nisa, said Deputy Mayor Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates) to ČTK today. About 100 million is expected to come from European funds for the construction.
Construction work is expected to start this summer, and it is set to be completed in two years.
The Jablonec city hall has been working on the project for four electoral terms. According to initial plans, the terminal was supposed to be completed already, but preparations have dragged on, and with that, the price has increased from the originally estimated 160 million korunas to roughly triple that amount. The city hall has, however, reduced the project, and an underground parking lot will not be included.
The costly construction will be financed by a loan, the acceptance of which was approved by the councilors at the beginning of last year. In the competition, the project was reduced by about 38 million korunas compared to the original estimate. "If we had built it seven years ago, I would have been more satisfied with the price; construction costs are completely different today," noted Mayor Miloš Vele (ODS).
The design of the terminal is the work of the Prague studio DMNK – Domyjinak architects, which won an open urban and architectural competition in 2018. The transport hub will connect urban, regional, supra-regional, and international bus transport with rail transport. In the future, the tram line from Liberec is also expected to terminate at the terminal; the Liberec transport company is preparing an extension of about 800 meters from the current terminus at Tyršovy sady.
"The personal transport terminal represents one of the most significant investments in the modern history of the city. Its realization will fundamentally improve transfer links between individual modes of transport and simultaneously cultivate and utilize the entire neglected city block around the former market," said Chuchlík. The solution also includes modifications to the embankment of the Lužická Nisa; a new waterfront will be built on the right bank, and a park with seating steps allowing access to the water will be created on the left bank.
