Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou will announce an architectural competition for the design of a transport terminal on Kamenná Street in mid-July. The competition will be in two phases and should conclude no later than June next year. Jana Fričová announced this today on behalf of the city council. The city will pay about 3.2 million Czech crowns for the competition according to estimates.

The new transport terminal will allow access via a footbridge to the railway stop and also the construction of a parking lot for 200 cars. The construction costs are estimated to be between 150 and 200 million Czech crowns, most of which is expected to be funded by European grants. Jablonec intends to build the terminal between 2020 and 2022.

The architectural competition will be governed by the competition rules of the Czech Chamber of Architects and will be in two rounds. "The first phase is the submission of proposals and will last until about mid-October this year," said the deputy mayor for city development, Lukáš Pleticha (ČSSD). The second phase will take another three-quarters of a year. Although, according to Pleticha, the architectural competition is more time-consuming and financially demanding, it will allow the assignment of further stages of project documentation directly to the author of the winning proposal. "This will significantly save time in preparing the project, applying for grants, and implementation," added Pleticha.

The construction of the terminal is one of the largest projects in the city under the Integrated Area Development Plan (IPRÚ) Liberec - Jablonec nad Nisou. The project is linked to the planned extension of the tram line from Liberec to Jablonec, which is being prepared by the transport company. Currently, the tram line ends at Tyršovy sady, and the plan is to extend it to the new terminal in Jablonec via Soukenná Street and Dolní náměstí. The costs of this project are estimated to exceed half a billion Czech crowns.

Liberec is also preparing the construction of a bus terminal with a parking garage for 478 cars as part of the IPRÚ. The regional city initially wanted to announce an architectural competition according to the chamber's rules but eventually went the route of directly approaching six studios. In April of this year, the design by architect Petr Stolín was chosen as the best, but it is not yet the final solution. The design will be modified based on input from experts and the public. According to Stolín's proposal, the terminal with a passage should be situated closer to the train station and border Žitavská Street. The bus station is currently located lower, between Vaňurová Street and třída 1. máje. Liberec intends to complete the new terminal by 2019, with costs not expected to exceed 150 million Czech crowns.
