Jablonec nad Nisou

Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou will have a study prepared to select the most suitable site for the new transport terminal. Its construction is related to the planned extension of the intercity tram line from Liberec to the center of Jablonec. The city hall is expected to have the study results available in January. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Miloš Vele (ODS). Based on the results, the city will assess whether to build the new transport hub at all.

"It will be a significant impact on the city budget for the next decades; we must decide very responsibly," said Vele. The costs for the construction of the public transport transfer terminal are estimated at 180 million crowns. The city aims to obtain a European grant for it. Hundreds of millions will also be required for the extension of the tram line from the outskirts of Jablonec. The route is supposed to be extended by about 700 meters from Tyršovy sady.
The study will evaluate the terminal construction in terms of economics, impact on the urbanism of the city, parking, potential further development of the center, routing of public transport bus lines, and complications during construction. "We have established a number of criteria that the company conducting the study for us should describe and evaluate in some way," added Vele.
The new terminal is to be created in an area defined by the streets Mostecká, 5. květen, Kamenná, and Lipanská, where the bus station already exists. "The two basic options are to fix the terminal in its current position, or to create it on the site of the former market. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. There may also be a third option; the area is large. But that is up to the experts," stated Mayor Petr Beitl (ODS). A large park-and-ride lot or parking garage should also be built in the vicinity of the terminal.
The city wants to finance the construction from the Integrated Development Plan for the Liberec - Jablonec nad Nisou agglomeration area. If everything goes smoothly, the project documentation should be completed around 2018, and construction could begin in 2019 and 2020 if funding is secured.
