Pardubice - The abandoned automatic mills in Pardubice, where production ended in March, will welcome cultural events. The festival will offer from May 30 to June 14 theatrical performances, creative workshops, exhibitions, and concerts. The mills were designed by architect Josef Gočár and are a significant landmark of the city. The abandoned buildings are currently for sale, and the festival is also expected to open a discussion about their future use. Zdeněk Závodný from Divadlo 29, which is organizing the festival, said this to the journalists today. "This project could open a dialogue about the potential content and use of Gočár's mills and their potential for the city," Závodný added. The festival has three dramaturgical lines. The first includes artistic performances centered on the theme of the mills' building. The second line will offer concerts and theatrical performances that could take place anywhere else but will resonate differently in a new environment. The third motif of the festival is lectures and debates about architecture in general, as well as the history of the mills and their future. The festival will kick off with the musical of Divadlo Gočár, which is a musical debate between three of the most significant architects of the last century: Josef Gočár, Pavel Janák, and Josip Plečnik. The greats argue among themselves about who created the more significant work. "The performance premiered in December 2012 and fits perfectly here. The performance is very witty and accessible in its form to the widest audience," Závodný said. Audiences can also expect a performance featuring the architect's wife, Marie Gočárová, concerts by Lenka Dusilová, or the jazz-funk big band KYX Orchestra. The entire festival will conclude with an interdisciplinary conference on the possible use of industrial buildings of the automatic mills.
