Hodonín - Hodonín is looking for a city architect who could start working as early as the end of the year. Applications can be submitted electronically or in written form until the end of October, said city hall spokesman Josef Horníček in a press release. The architect is expected to work externally for about 600 hours per year. Mayor Libor Střecha (For Hodonín) told ČTK that the position previously existed in the city and then ceased to exist, its restoration was mentioned in the program declaration.
The city council approved the call and the terms of the competition for the position of city architect. The mayor stated that the architect was previously an employee of the office. "Then it was somehow cancelled and it was never restored and we think it's a great pity. We have in the program declaration that we want to restore the position," he said.
However, the architect will no longer be an employee of the office. "It is a position that will be performed externally. The architect will work on the basis of a contract with a notice period," said Petr Spazier, head of the legal department of the Hodonín city hall.
The architect should cooperate, for example, in the preparation and implementation of the city’s investment projects, project documentation, but should also provide consulting and advisory services to the city hall management and departmental offices in the areas of land use planning, architecture, urbanism, environment, and heritage care. "He will also provide consultations for citizens, investors, and developers. It is expected that he will work approximately 600 hours each year," said city spokesman Horníček. According to him, the city will thus join approximately 80 cities and municipalities in the Czech Republic that will have a city architect.
The position of city architect was restored in the last electoral term in Brno, for example, where an architect was also present before but ceased in 2003. In the last electoral term, the Office of the City Architect of Brno was established, and since July 2016, its director has been Michal Sedláček, who previously worked in the USA.
