PRAGUE - The Holešovice Market in Prague 7 is set to be transformed into a modern center for commerce, entertainment, and leisure in the near future. The new owners of Delta Climatizer are planning extensive changes, having rented the market from the city for several years. They intend to start gradual renovations of the market later this year. This was stated today by Prague councillor Pavel Klega.

"The current use of the Holešovice Market is no longer suitable in the context of the city's development and growth," the councillor noted.
The original contract allowed the company to operate the market and street vending on the grounds of the former Holešovice slaughterhouse since the 1990s. According to the councillor, it was beneficial at the time. However, gradually counterfeit goods began to be sold at the stalls, and the style of utilization of the area has also become outdated, he remarked.
The Holešovice complex is to feature quality restaurants and shops. There will be both large and small stores with branded clothing. The traditional range of goods, such as a market for fruits and vegetables and gardening supplies, is to remain in the market. Part of the area is also to continue being used as an Asian market, but according to the investors, at a high aesthetic and commercial level. Plans also include modifications to the communication infrastructure around the market, including the waterfront.
The investor will, according to the councillor, respect the fact that parts of the market are protected as historical landmarks during the renovations. After the reconstruction, the market should also thrive in the evening hours as an entertainment center. "Under no circumstances will it be possible to provide any erotic services there," Klega noted. There should also not be a casino. The city hall wants to secure this in a newly adjusted rental agreement, which will include penalties for breaching the agreement.
Delta Climatizer is planning to change its name to Delta Center. According to the councillor, the new owners, Sybil Holdings and Sage Capital Growth, guarantee that they will have enough financial resources for the market's renovation and that they will use their experience operating similar facilities. However, the investor has yet to specify how much money they intend to invest in the reconstruction.
Until recently, the company paid 65 million crowns annually for renting the market; since January of this year, it has been paying 109 million crowns, the councillor added.
