Prague – The Prague City Hall will announce a public tender for the reconstruction of the former stock exchange building in the Prague market in Holešovice, which is in very poor condition. The estimated value of the contract is a maximum of 185.6 million crowns. The announcement of the tender was approved today by Prague representatives. When the work will start depends, among other things, on the course of the public contract. The stock exchange building is a cultural heritage monument. The owner of the market area is the city, which is gradually repairing it.

"From the perspective of the market, this is a significant milestone; it is the first major investment by the city in many years. The stock exchange is in a state of disrepair and has been closed for a long time. The reconstruction has been planned for several years, and now we have managed to obtain all the necessary permits, which is why we want to announce the contract for the repair of this magnificent building," said the Deputy Mayor Pavel Vyhnánek (Prague Sobě).

The south annex and the extensions of the stock exchange are in particularly poor structural condition. It also suffers from a number of structural failures that threaten the stability of the structures and the safety of visitors to the area. In places where the original southern wall was, structural failures are evident, and wood-destroying fungi have been found in the wooden structures.

In the past, several reconstructions and modifications were made to the stock exchange building, but they did not contribute to the good condition of the object. The original southern wall was removed in the southern annex, leading to a concentration of forces in the remaining pillars at the adjoining walls. Structural failures are evident in these areas.

The selected company will carry out, among other things, demolition work, take care of the foundation and other structures, repair the floors and interior wall surfaces, and build new installations. It will also perform roofing work and restore the interior decoration, stuccoes, stone and locksmith elements, and doors. The outdoor areas and fencing will also be reconstructed.

The city will invest two to three billion crowns into the repair of the Prague market in Holešovice over the next 15 years. The area will serve as a cultural, commercial, and gastronomic center. There will also be offices, a supermarket, and a viewing tower is to be built. The access will be expanded, new greenery will be planted, and rainwater will be collected into underground tanks.

The area originally housing Prague's slaughterhouses was established in 1895. It operated as a slaughterhouse until the 1980s when it began to transform into a market. The area was declared a cultural monument.
