We warmly invite you to the launch of the book of the same name by Jan Šépka and Mirka Tůmová, which seeks to find possible answers to the question of how to approach the complex solution of larger urban units.
What should the contemporary city be like? What should it provide for people? Is it necessary to keep repeating proven schemes? How to address problematic areas in the city that have interesting potential, but also several limitations? These and other questions concerning, for example, transportation, greenery, etc., are addressed in the book by teams of architecture students under the guidance of Jan Šépka and Mirka Tůmová, in collaboration with representatives from eight selected cities and urban districts. In the examples discussed, the students try to show in several variants how to find the greatest potential of the city, which can serve as the basis for an urban study or concept. The confrontation of their proposals directly in the addressed location with the participation of citizens and politicians is important, as they appreciate the students' activities as a source of inspiration for further urban development. The book outlines different possibilities in planning urban strategic concepts. Ideally, it can serve as a tool to convince politicians of the need for architectural and urban planning competitions.
