Kladno - This year, the appearance of the upper part of Kladno's pedestrian zone T. G. Masaryk is set to change. The transformation will affect the area around the Sokol hall, and adjustments to the traffic regime are also planned. The pedestrian zone is to gradually connect more with the Československé armády boulevard. Kladno's mayor Milan Volf (Volba pro Kladno) stated this to ČTK.
According to original plans, the city wanted to have Poštovní náměstí, located in the lower part of the pedestrian zone, modified this year as well. "If we do it now, it will look nice, but we will reduce parking there, which we do not want," the mayor indicated. Therefore, the town hall will wait for the new parking spaces to be created at the adjoining bus station before proceeding with the changes.
The city center is expected to experience a significant transformation in the next two years. In addition to a comprehensive renovation of the pedestrian zone costing tens of millions of crowns, the town hall aims to start modernizing the bus station this year, which does not meet modern standards and lacks facilities for travelers. The investment could reach approximately 200 million crowns; precise costs will only be determined by the project and the outcome of the tender, which the city will announce after the February budget approval.
The city intends to cover part of the costs with European subsidies, but it also has a negotiated loan from which it can draw up to 450 million crowns. How much the city ultimately borrows will be decided progressively by the councilors this year and in 2019 and 2020.
