Kladno - The center of Kladno, namely the pedestrian zone T. G. Masaryk and its surroundings, will also change according to the proposals submitted to the architectural competition. The city announced it in February and has now selected the best ones, from which the project preparation will be based. However, none of the proposals fully met the requirements. ČTK was informed about this today by the spokesperson of the Kladno city hall, Lenka Růžková. The transformation of the center is set to begin next year.
The aim of the city hall is to revitalize and enhance the attractiveness of the city center, as well as to improve the microclimate through the expansion of greenery and, for example, water features. "I personally look forward to the disappearance of various types of advertising from the pedestrian zone that I trip over at every corner, to be replaced by a unified information system," stated Mayor Milan Volf (Choice for Kladno).
According to him, there will be significantly more changes; the best proposal represents a fundamental change in the approach to public space in the city center. Six proposals were submitted for the competition, one was disqualified by the jury, which consisted of three representatives of the city and six independent experts, due to violations of the competition conditions, the spokesperson stated.
The jury did not award a first prize; the proposal from the D3A studio received the second prize and a reward of 140,000 crowns, while the third prize and a reward of 80,000 crowns went to the proposal by architect Tomáš Kodet. All the proposals will be exhibited in July at the Kladno department store near the center.
In April, Kladno also announced an architectural competition for the transformation of the bus terminal and its surroundings, with the results to be published by the city in August.
