Kladno - Kladno will announce a competition for the transformation of the pedestrian zone T. G. Masaryk. The city plans to expand it, with more greenery being added. Work is expected to start in 2017, and the project should be developed during the next year. Architect Ondřej Rys, who is responsible for the development of Kladno, said this today to ČTK. The transformation will cost tens of millions of crowns and will be divided into several phases.
The city recently held a meeting with citizens directly in the pedestrian zone. It emerged that they miss, for example, greenery, more benches, or more frequent cleaning. This was followed by discussions with shop and property owners in the area. The city council intends to announce the competition in December or January. "Part of the brief will be the expansion of the pedestrian zone towards Svobody Square and also towards the bus station," said Rys. The adjustments should also include adjacent side streets near the pedestrian zone.
The city council also wants to organize more events in the lower part of the pedestrian zone at Starosta Pavel Square. In December, in addition to visiting traditional Advent events, people will be able to skate directly on the square, where an ice rink will be installed next to the church.
Kladno city hall also plans to purchase the building of the former Kino Oko near the pedestrian zone, which recently operated as a hostel. The building is currently empty, and if the city agrees with the owner on the selling price, it will buy it. The estimated price is 36 million crowns. "We are still negotiating; we would like to get the price down to the estimated price," said Kladno Mayor Milan Volf (Volba pro Kladno). The building would become a cultural center with a small hall for concerts and similar events.
