Kolín – Kolín has completed the construction of a sports hall in the Borky district. The costs amounted to about 100 million crowns, and it will primarily serve for floorball, handball, futsal, and volleyball, stated Mayor Michael Kašpar. The construction of the hall finished earlier than expected; the city initially anticipated completion by the end of the year.
The sports hall is one story high, with the design resulting from an architectural competition. The hall features a playing court measuring 40 by 25 meters, making it suitable for handball or floorball, for example. In addition to the court with substitutes' benches and stands, there is also a facility for athletes and a clubroom. The company Strabag, which built the hall, also constructed a parking lot with over 80 spaces, expanded the access road, and ensured the planting of greenery.
According to Kašpar, the new hall will be energy-efficient, with annual energy costs expected to decrease by about half. The city should spend about 250,000 crowns per year on energy for the hall instead of the originally anticipated nearly 500,000 crowns.
The idea to build a sports hall for floorball, handball, futsal, and volleyball came from athletes who lack facilities in Kolín and have to travel outside the city for home matches.
