Kroměříž - The Kroměříž Town Hall has started the construction of a parking house on Havlíčkova Street. The project will be managed by the company GEMO from Olomouc, with costs amounting to approximately 86 million Czech crowns, spokesman for the town hall Jan Vondrášek informed ČTK in a press release today.
"The construction of the parking house is one of the largest investment projects we have planned for this electoral term," said Mayor Jaroslav Němec (Independents). The parking house will have 137 parking spaces, six of which will be reserved for the handicapped. "The main construction objects are four - a public garage, facilities, an information center and a public space at the corner, which will unify the public garage and the residential building," said Soňa Mertová, head of the investment department at the town hall. Access to the garage will be from Velehradská Street.
The garage will have two floors and will be partially set into the ground. The facilities will be single-story, as will the information center, which will be located at the entrance to the public garage. "The information center will include a café and a space for parking bicycles, accommodating 35 of them," Mertová stated. The construction of the parking house should be completed by the summer of 2022 at the latest. The town hall has promised a grant of nearly 51 million crowns from European funds for its construction.
According to the town hall representatives, the parking house should improve the traffic situation near Kroměříž's historic center. The town hall obtained the land for the parking house when purchasing the building of the former district military administration. The leadership of Kroměříž intends to convert the building into starter apartments for young people and flats for seniors in the future, expected to be several dozen in number.
