Prague – The Building Authority of Prague 6 has issued a non-final decision regarding the site placement of an indoor swimming pool at the Petynka swimming area in Střešovice. The construction of the indoor pool will continue to be prepared with the aim of costing no more than approximately 250 million. This was communicated today by Jiří Hannich, spokesperson for Prague 6. Prague 6 plans to build the covered pool at the Střešovice site over several years.

"Currently, the period is running during which participants in the proceedings can appeal this decision (the decision of the Building Department of the Prague 6 City Hall regarding the site placement of the construction). If the decision becomes final, SNEO will continue to the next phases of preparing documentation," stated the office spokesperson.

The zoning decision for the completion of the Petynka area was previously issued by the Building Department of Prague 6. At that time, Geosan appealed against it. The Building Department at the Prague city hall subsequently revoked the zoning decision and returned the matter for new discussion. In mid-July 2021, the Building Department of the Prague 6 municipality issued a so-called notification for supplementary documentation for the continuation of the zoning process, and on September 3, it issued a decision on the placement of the construction, as Hannich stated. According to Prague 6 councilor and chairman of the board of the service company SNEO Zdeněk Hořánek (STAN), the Building Authority of Prague 6 received no objections regarding the supplementary documentation and the continuation of the zoning process. The councilor announced this at a meeting of the Prague 6 council in mid-September.

The creation of the indoor pool in the sports and recreational area of Petynka, operated by the municipal service company SNEO, will be prepared according to a project from the Ateliér 11 Hradec Králové from 2018. The architects based their project for the new building in the area on a design by Kristýna Ulrychová, which won a competition among students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University. According to earlier information, the new construction should include, among other things, a 25-meter swimming pool, saunas, exercise rooms, and a multifunctional pool that will serve for school swimming lessons in the morning hours.

The city hall now wants the total cost for the completion of the area to be no more than approximately 250 million crowns. The funding for the creation of the indoor pool should come from a grant from the National Sports Agency, from grants from the Prague City Hall, and from the budget of the municipality of Prague 6.

This year's attendance at the outdoor swimming pool Petynka was significantly influenced by bad weather and government regulations related to COVID-19, according to Hořánek. From June to August 24, the swimming pool was visited by 58,880 guests, compared to nearly 92,000 in 2019. Part of the operating hours this summer was limited due to the regulations affecting the capacity of the area. Last year, the swimming pool was under renovation. The reconstruction, costing around 27 million crowns without VAT, included the replacement of the outdoor pool basin, expansion and modification of the slide pool's catchment area, and renovation of the changing rooms. The work was carried out by the company Berndorf Baderbau.

SNEO was founded in 2004. Its activities include property management and maintenance, sale and rental of residential and non-residential premises and land in the municipality of Prague 6, and management of the Petynka swimming pool.

Currently, TOP 09, ODS, STAN, and KDU-ČSL govern Prague 6. The opposition includes the Pirates, Greens, and ANO.
