Kutná Hora - Kutná Hora is still struggling to sell the former school in the local part of Malín, which has been unused since 2012. The town hall has offered it for sale many times, but in the end, no interested parties have registered for the selection process. The last attempt to sell the building also ended in failure, said Mayor Josef Viktora (ANO) to ČTK.

"Unfortunately, it keeps happening. No one has registered," he stated. The town hall prefers the use of the building for seniors or for education. According to city representatives, there are many interested parties who would like to build a nursing home in Kutná Hora. However, they are discouraged by the construction modifications that would be necessary for the Malín school. It is an old building with high ceilings, which can be expected to entail large operational costs.

"We had two interested parties who said they would buy it, demolish it, and build something new on that site. They thought it would be more advantageous than renovating," Viktora said.

People in Malín are concerned that the unused building might become a hostel, something that, according to Viktora, the town hall also does not wish for. He stated that the city has not given up on trying to sell the property. "We will definitely list it again. I believe that every property has its buyer," the mayor added.

The Malín school was closed in the autumn of 2012 because only 17 children enrolled and there were no first-graders. The council thus decided to abolish the small school, which caused a wave of discontent in the local part with about 1,500 residents. According to some locals, the town hall let the school fall into disrepair to avoid further operation. There was also occasional talk in Malín about a possible separation from Kutná Hora. The then-city leadership argued that many parents from Malín send their children to larger schools that have better facilities.
